We stayed in Rock House after staying at a private reserve for a couple of days and had a wonderful time. The area is amazing and you actually need at least 2/3 nights here: 1 full day for Kruger and definitely 1-2 full days to appreciate the lodge and relax: there are great hiking opportunities and the morning game drive is wonderful (Ross is a great guide). Everyone is very friendly (especially Mavis who served our dinner and was very friendly). The food was also very good, and they have a great wine list with fair prices. Nelspruit is a well run city, s gateway for anyone passing through to Maputo-mozambique, Limpopo, the Kruger Park. The one bad thing about the place is lack of taxi services like Bolt or Uber locally. One has to do with the local minibus taxis which do not always service some areas and operate at set hours. There are some operators but charge speculative fares due to the absence of app based taxis. I'm told this is due to minibus taxi operators blocking their activities. Impressive little town with lots to do in town and in surrounding areas. The town had great little shops and amazing restaurants with lovely ambiance and views. It felt clean and the roads recently tarred. The grass of the game reserves' boundaries next to the main roads were all cut which looked well kept and neat. It was just disappointing that it was not possible to do self drives or walks inside any of the surrounding game reserves unless you were staying in the reserve. The Kruger was your only option. My favourite restaurants were the Blue Mountain restaurant, The Argula Experience at Zandspruit and Aerotel. Great trips in the surrounding area were Blyde river canyon boat excursion, Mango Mohlatsi and Maholoholo rehabilitation centre. Had a great trip to the Kruger Park entering at the Orpen gate and taking the Timbavati road to Olifants camp and the river dirt road to Letaba and exiting via the Phalaborwa gate. The pool area is really nice and the overall resort is very clean and well maintained. Quiet and peaceful. Gorgeous escarpment and unusual rock formations. Great to see the wild horses and visit the magnificent waterfall. Excellent restaurant with the best Eisbein and beef goulash at Bohemian. Wonderful Sunday afternoon music too. Nice to meander through the village streets.
