Everything was just perfect. We stayed one night with breakfast, in the apartment with private onsen. Would definitely come back and stay longer. The apartment is in very convenient location- close to all the attractions. The staff and the owner are very friendly, kind and helpful. Owner spoke very good English and gave us many tips on what to do and where to go. Made us feel very welcoming. Breakfast traditional Japanese. Food was very delicious.

Location. It is very close to Yubatake. The place is very clean. I like that the baths are private because I am not comfortable being naked with other ladies.

All very organized. Terminal bus is really near but with the snow, the shuttle is really handy. Breakfast and dinner are amazing. Love everything. The onsen/ spring water was delicious, and what I was looking for, there was one open and you could see trees with snow! ⛄️

We take the lodge house which is very big and spacious for my family of 5. The design with wooden blocks is very beautiful. The lodge house is a bit far from main hotel building but shutter bus is always available.

It has a very calm and homely atmosphere. We loved the private baths, yukatas and the very lovely staff. You get a small but good breakfast. The room was large and it's very quiet at night. So we slept very well.

I really loved the whole experience at Ryokan Tamura. I felt very relaxed and pampered since dinner and breakfast was served, and we loved using the onsen. We asked for vegan food, and they informed us that the broth may contain dashi, but for us that was ok. The food was delicious and we got to try some of the traditional Japanese cuisine consisting of mainly vegetables. There were men only and women only onsens, and two private onsens. The water was super warm and relaxing. The staff was also very welcoming and nice and spoke english.

Everything was lovely - the staff the room, the onsens, the breakfasts. Location was great, halfway between the Youbatake and the bus terminal (150m to either). Kusatsu is a magical place, and Hanaingen was a special way to experience a traditional Japanese ryokan. Thanks especially to all the kind and helpful staff.

This ryokan was our last leg of travelling around Japan before staying just in Tokyo before leaving so it was to be a special day at the onsen town. And it certainly delivers - the room was amazing, the meals were amazing and the onsen rooms were amazing and open 24h a day. The staff is very friendly and the games room is perfect for after a bath, also having a foot massage device that went really well after a bath. Kusatsu is also a lovely town and we did a bit of exploring and snacking as soon as we arrived in town.

One of my favourite ryokans I’ve ever stayed in! Such a cosy and welcoming atmosphere, lovely rooms and comfortable futon. Loved the private bath we were able to use a few times. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, it really felt like “coming home”. Super glad we booked this as part of our honeymoon and I’ll be staying here again if I return to Kusatsu!
