Japanese-style rooms feature a tatami (woven mat) floor and shoji sliding paper screens. Some rooms offer tranquil views of the Seto Inland Sea. They are fitted with an LCD TV, a mini-fridge and traditional futon beds. An en suite bathroom and yukata robes are provided. Amazing experience in a traditional style with a modern comfort. The hotel is located in a quiet place ~20 mins walk from the ferry port. It may sound far but the hotel provides the shuttle bus as often as you need. We were prepared for the ryokan rules about the shoes, so it wasn’t a surprise for us. The traditional room is very beautiful, clean, looks better in real life than on the pictures. Nice view from the window, I even saw an eagle on the tree. The hotel staff is extremely polite and helpful. Usually the staff set up the bed after the dinner but they set it up for me when I asked for a day nap. The dinner and breakfast servings is extraordinarily. Nice choice of exclusive souvenirs, especially loved the Momiji manju cookies, the ones from the hotel are MUCH better than the ones from the shopping street. In general, I highly recommend to stay here at least for 1-2 night for better exploration of Miyajima without rush.

Combining modern design with a homely decor, Kikunoya Hotel offers both Western and Japanese-style rooms. Entertainment options include cable channels and a DVD player. Certain rooms include an en suite bathroom. Toiletries and slippers are provided for in the private and shared bathroom. All good, Onsen, bedroom shower. The japanese dinner and breakfast was included. All very fresh, but too many oysters for me😁. Great place to stay on the island for one night but be aware that all is shut on the island once it gets dark. They collected our luggage on the first day so we could tour the town and climb Mt Misen. Then we got an early free shuttle to get the ferry in the morning. All great.

Set in Yasugi, 26 km from Mizuki Shigeru Road, Shokinkan offers rooms with air conditioning and free WiFi. The property is situated 26 km from Lake Shinji, 27 km from Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum and 24 km from Matsue Station. Shimane Art Museum is 26 km from the ryokan. Shokinkan is a truly magical place operated by incredible people. Nestled in a gorgeous, ancient temple complex, the grounds are extremely fun to hike/explore during the day, with plenty of opportunities to learn about the history of the place through thoughtful signage and the wonderful staff. The food was absolutely delicious - we were eating a feast of unique foods specially prepared for us every evening and morning, which made the experience epic. Okami-san and everyone else here gregariously welcomed us with cups of beautiful matcha, and even shuttled us to and from Yasugi station and to the Adachi Museum of Art. I will never forget this place!

Oyado Tsukiusagi is set in Miyajima, 600 metres from Five Storey Pagoda, less than 1 km from Itsukushima Shrine, as well as a 15-minute walk from Daisho-in Temple. It is located 2.4 km from Tsutsumigaura Beach and provides luggage storage space. Museum of History and Folklore is 1.1 km from the ryokan and Shiraito Falls is 1.5 km away. The hotel was just minutes from the port. The host was extremely helpful. Good coffee and tea available and a small area with homemade craft items for sale. The room was spacious including a balcony-like alcove looking toward the sea. The name - moon rabbit - was very fitting.
