Rooms have a tatami (woven-straw) floor and low furniture. Some offer beds, while other rooms come with traditional futon bedding. All rooms are fitted with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and a fridge. Yukata robes are provided. This place was 12/10. Absolutely amazing experience as soon as you step through the front door. The rooms were traditional and cosy. The onsen was glorious and still can’t get over the dinner/breakfast. So glad we booked Motoyu Ishiya and can’t wait to return.

Each accommodation at the 4-star ryokan has garden views, and guests can enjoy access to a sauna and a hot spring bath. The ryokan also provides free WiFi, free private parking and facilities for disabled guests. The hospitality was amazing. From the shuttle that met us at the train station, to Natalie explaining all different courses of kaiseki, to the owners welcoming us. We really appreciated the tranquility the room offered. We had a great view of the garden from our balcony. The private onsen was the icing on the cake. It was the most relaxing thing, we used it 4 times during our one day stay. All in all, I was looking for a traditional Japanese experience and Matsusaki did not disappoint.
