Located just 2.5 km from Nikko Toshogu Shrine, Morinouta offers accommodation in Nikko with access to a garden, a terrace, as well as luggage storage space. It is set 3.9 km from Tobu Nikko Station and features a concierge service. The ryokan provides rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. My friend and I stayed at Morinouta Hotel for one night, and it turned out to be such a lovely experience. The staff were genuinely friendly at one point, the host came over and asked if we wanted some homemade cheesecake (obviously yes, because… cheesecake). They also gave us tips on places to check out nearby, which was really helpful. The rooms were cosy and comfortable, with huge windows that are perfect for sitting by with a cup of tea or for taking slightly dramatic, Victorian-style photos if you’re in the mood.

Located in Nikko and only 800 metres from Kegon Falls, Chuzenji Pension provides accommodation with lake views, free WiFi and free private parking. Featuring a garden, the ryokan is close to several noted attractions, around 1.6 km from Chuzenji Lake and around less than 1 km from Chuzenji Temple. The accommodation offers luggage storage space and a housekeeping service for guests. The host was super friendly and nice, the meals were very tasty (both dinner and breakfast), and the atmosphere was really calm & relaxing. We also enjoyed the private Onsen. The location is great - just near the lake and only a 5 minute walk from the bus stop. Great value for money!

Established in 1666, Honke Bankyu is housed in a registered historical building. The Japanese rooms feature traditional decor, futon bedding and a flat-screen TV. The hotel has 5 hot-spring baths and serves local specialities for dinner. This is a fantastic hotel surrounded by nature (mountains, rivers and woods) and transpiring Japanese tradition. The hotel provides an excellent Onsen experience in a 300 year-old ryokan. The setup is essentially Japanese, so expect to sleep in futons, take off your shows and walk on slippers through tatami floor, and have Japanese meals (including breakfast). The kaiseki dinners are an absolute delight, and the outdoor onsen at night is the stuff of dreams. One may feel a bit daunted by the itinerary to the hotel, but it is truly easy to get there. Taking the Aizu Revaty train from Asakusa to Yunishigawa Onsen you then catch a 15 minute bus which will drop you off in front of the Hotel. All this information was communicated by the hotel ahead of our stay. One important tip: plan to buy the train tickets before the day of your trip, because they can be sold out. I am not sure if these tickets are sold online, so the safest way to buy them in advance is to go the tourist office at Asakusa station.

Guests at Ryokan Nikko Hoshino Yado can relax and unwind with a massage or by soaking in the hotel’s cypress wood hot-spring baths. Guests can also experience wearing traditional kimono and have their picture taken; contact the property directly for more information. EVERYTHING! I absolutely loved the place. The room was so nice, packed with great small treatments, the view from the room was breathtaking. You can go to the public onsen as much as you like, and I even rented the private onsen, and it was just what I needed. The private onsen was so good, needless to say it was tidy clean, the atmosphere was amazing, I absolutely loved it!

Buffet and continental breakfast options with warm dishes, local specialities and pancakes are available. There is a coffee shop, and a minimarket is also available. The ryokan is located in a geothermal area, with a number of hot springs nearby for guests to relax in. I am afraid our stay at Kinugawa Keisui might have destroyed our expectations towards other hotels for the future. I can only describe it as absolutely outstanding. Beginning with the scenario location next to a forest and a small river, the huge, modern, beautiful and amazingly comfortable room, which didn‘t only feature several small welcome presents, a minibar filled with a wide (and free) variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and huge and comfortable beds, ending at the most outstanding breakfast and dinner consisting I was allowed to witness in Japan, the hotel and the amazingly kind and professional staff made our stay to be nothing but amazing. There are some many small details we could list, such as the outdoor fire place where you can read a book in a calm and relaxed atmosphere sipping your coffee, the bento boxes for travels during the day, the Onsen on your balcony for which you can adjust the temperature to your perfect needs, the entertainment system in your room should you chose to relax here, the staff which gives you privacy should you want it but helps with any need you might have, the fast and stable internet anywhere in the hotel and and and. We usually don‘t book hotels again, but we will definitely return here during our next Japan trip.
