The lovely manager of the property made everything relaxed and easy, including our unplanned late arrival around 2am. The property is a NZ motel, which means it is a type of unit with its own kitchen, and an informal personality that is quite unlike chain hotels. The location right on the beach with views across the water and up the coast feels like a place far away from city life. The beach is rocky, and not really suitable for swimming (unless perhaps with rubber aqua footwear) but good for strolling with a mug of coffee, fossicking for driftwood and shells. The unit was warm with the heating on and the excellent beds have electric blankets as well.

Situated in Thames, Waiotahi Valley Lodge provides accommodation with a hot tub and spa facilities. The property has sea and garden views, and is 33 km from Miranda Hot Springs.
