Oriole homestay exceeded our expectations in terms of comfort, hospitality, and overall experience. The room was spacious (the biggest we got during our travels in India), and it had a nice big balcony (more like a terrace). The bathroom is also big, providing hot and warm water; a shower is a bit separated from the toilet so not everything is wet after showering. The hosts, Mr. Girish and Mrs. Sunila, were a real gem - they were warm and friendly and they helped us with our tickets (go to the martial show, it is really fun to see), and all other bookings (nearby trips, intercity transports, etc.). All their recommendations for nearby attractions and restaurants were excellent. We had breakfast at a homestay on our last morning, and Mrs. Sunila cooked great food, and we had a very refreshing conversation with Mr. Girish who is an expert in Thekkady animals and forests, and knows a lot about world animals in general. Mr. Girish, I will read the book soon! Finally, the location of the place was great as it was situated in a peaceful area but also close to a few good restaurants and a walk distance from the attractions.

Our journey to Hills ‘n Hues Resort began with a twist - the road was so narrow that it felt like we were embarking on a real-life game of “Will My Car Fit?” Thankfully, the resort staff came to our rescue in MG electric car, which, by the way, were a fancy treat! Apparently, you have to channel your inner Indiana Jones to get here, passing through Tamil Nadu and village and all, but trust me, it’s worth it. Check-in was smoother than a freshly buttered slide. We arrived fashionably late (because, vacation mode), and to our surprise, our rooms were not only ready but also sparkling clean. Kudos to the cleaning squad! Now, onto the fun stuff! We decided to channel our inner Gordon Ramsays and signed up for a cooking session with the chef. We left feeling like culinary wizards after mastering the art of cooking honey chilli potato. If you ever visit, don’t miss this - your taste buds will thank you. The restaurant terrace and swimming pool view? Breathtaking doesn’t even begin to cover it. I stayed in the “Cavran,” and I must say, I could sit in that room forever, contemplating life with the view as my muse. They also have a room where basically all you see is glass - except for the door, of course. If you’re into 360-degree views, this is your jam. Now, onto breakfast. It was decent, but I wouldn’t call it the belle of the ball, especially when you consider the other 5-star services. It had a good spread, though, so no complaints there.

I have to say, this was the epitome of my Kerala trip. The resort, tucked deep within a thriving cardamom plantation, was nothing short of magical — especially during the monsoon. Every day it rained, and there we were: warm, dry, and content, sipping tea as we watched the rain fall over the lush green hills. Pure bliss. The room was equally unforgettable — spacious, thoughtfully designed, and incredibly cozy. The highlight was the almost outdoor bathroom, which let us shower with a view of the forest canopy, all while maintaining perfect privacy. And the four-poster bed was so comfortable. There and then we decided that we have to make this an annual trip. So, yeah, see you next year.
