Just 250 metres from Zenko-ji Temple, Matsuya Ryokan offers simple Japanese rooms with tatami-mat floors, a green-tea maker and an attached Western bathroom. The hotel features public baths. We stayed here while visiting the Japanese Alps. Atsu was really friendly and helped us out a lot. We had to check in a bit later due to delays and also had a last minute diner during our stay. The room was spacious and the breakfast delicious. Really good curry, and was able to accommodate my wife with a gluten free meal for her (celiac). And we also got some really good advice for food for our next stay :). Thanks Atsu!

We loved everything about our stay at Yadoya Shiroganeya. Maki is an excellent host and her mother is an amazing cook! The local food of Nagano was delicious and hand picked by Maki herself. We had fun making friends with the resident pets Fukumaru and Kenta. We were even lucky enough to see snow during our stay, but we were cozy and warm inside at all times. There are so many lovely touches to this property that made it one of the most special places we’ve ever stayed. We hope to visit again!

Spacious room, liked the massage chair, nice views of the forest. We saw deers and raccoon dogs from the hotel. The only thing to be aware of is that there are no bathrooms attached to the rooms, showering is reserved to the onsen, toilet and sink are in the room.

De todo nuestro viaje por Japón, es el alojamiento que más nos ha gustado: por su ubicación (entorno precioso) por la comodidad y belleza de la habitación con muchos detalles, por la amabilidad y cariño del personal... mención especial al desayuno: lo bien presentado y elaborado que está y el lugar dónde los tomas no pueden ser mejores. Hemos estado solo una noche y me hubiera encantado estar más días.

This is a traditional ryokan and therefore it’s important to assess it on its own terms. It’s not a luxury hotel, but it is a lovely place to stay. The staff were wonderful, our room was huge and comfortable, the onsen was beautiful and the food was outstanding. I loved the traditional yukata and samue they provided, and the beauty products in the onsen were great. The location is very good- an agricultural town with fields surrounded by mountains- but it is next to a road so it’s not the most scenic. That said, it is very close to an amazing shrine that is one of the most beautiful holy places I have ever experienced.
