Aomori
Dormy Inn Aomori Natural Hot Spring is set in Aomori, 6 km from Sannai-Maruyama site and 43 km from Tsuta Hot Spring. With a restaurant, the 3-star hotel has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi. Private parking is available on site. Everything: the hotel, the onsen, the facilities, the staff. The onsen was great (inside and outside, the tubs, the sauna, the facilities). Everything was very clean. I also enjoyed the tasty apple juice. I would have liked to stay more there.
Matsushima
Located in Matsushima, 10 km from Shiogama Shrine, Matsushima Koumura features accommodation with a hot tub and a public bath. There is a private entrance at the ryokan for the convenience of those who stay. The ryokan provides rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. Staff was very friendly and easy to talk to, and the inn made for a great stay. Also the sentō baths were a welcome addition and were nice for relaxing into! The area is calm (for which the only downside is that there isn't a lot of choice for restaurants around), close to transportation and good for sightseeing around Mastushima — we took the sightseeing ferry around the bay and had a great time.
Aomori
ReLabo -Medical Spa & Stay- features a fitness centre, terrace, a restaurant and bar in Aomori. With free WiFi, this 3-star hotel offers a 24-hour front desk and a concierge service. The property is allergy-free and is set 5.8 km from Sannai-Maruyama site. I loved that it is basically inside the station and I could get to the stores without getting cold. Also, I LOVED that I could finally have an Onsen and a Gym! Finally, the room was spatious, I had a beautiful view for the Bridge and the staff very very kind. Ah! And for breakafast I could order truffle omelet and eggs benedict (aomori style maybe due to the apple) and they were great!
Kuroishi
Situated in Kuroishi in the Aomori region, Tabinoyado Saikawa features accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking, as well as access to spa facilities. This 3-star ryokan offers a housekeeping service and private check-in and check-out. Tsuta Hot Spring is 36 km away and Hirosaki Castle is 22 km from the ryokan. This is a traditional Japanese ryokan with public baths (gender separated). Dinner and breakfast are amazing and plentiful, with locally sourced organic produce (even coffee!). Our room (Japanese room with private toilet) was to the left of the entrance. It was very spacious. The heater worked very well as autumn night was a bit damp and cold. The beds are futons on wood bed frames on tatami, and they are super comfortable. As I have a whole-leg tattoo which is usually not permitted in the public baths, I notified Ranko in advance, and she reserved the private bath for us. The private bath was a very beautiful blue ceramic bath filled with warm (I don’t think it’s very hot) healing hot spring water from the area. Ranko’s warm personality really made the stay memorable. Be sure to ask her for recommendations of the areas. She is a well of knowledge of the area!
Zao Onsen
Takasagoya Ryokan offers a public bath, as well as air-conditioned accommodation in Zao Onsen, 200 metres from Zao Onsen Ski Resort. There is an on-site restaurant, plus free private parking and free WiFi are available. The ryokan features family rooms. Warmest accommodations I’ve ever received. I loved every aspect of the place - sleeping, living, dining, showering, onsen, accessibility to the slopes. This is a beautiful place! The owners were very nice and they were very forgiving of our mistakes and helped out with our request.

Koto player during our stay. Was very traditional and super cool!

The guest house has family rooms. It’s easy to go skiing or snowboarding. The lift is just next to the hotel. The hotel owner is kind and funny. I have a great experience here.
Aizuwakamatsu
Tagoto features a hot public bath, Japanese-style and Western rooms and Japanese cuisine, a 5-minute drive from Aizu Wakamatsu Station. It offers free Wi-Fi throughout the propert and free parking is on-site. A wonderful ryokan in Aizuwakamatsu, with the most helpful and diligent staff! I never went a day without being completely full, my breakfast and dinner were absolutely wonderful! The bath area was calming and spotless clean! Cannot recommend this place enough!

Set 500 metres from Zao Onsen Ski Resort, Pension Puutaro offers 3-star accommodation in Zao Onsen and features a garden. The location was great, with an easy access to Sendai train station and the city centre. The staff was friendly, and everything we could have needed was provided (towels, water bottles, vending machine,...)
Great location. Friendly staff Reasonable buffet breakfast for 3 star hotel.
The location is great, just a minute to the station, to the river and a few more minutes into the city center.
The best part of staying in this budget hotel is the exceptional breakfast buffet with a great variety of Japanese homemade dishes. It’s within a 10-min walk from the JR station. The public bath is open until late night.
The bath size was decent for a budget hotel. Staff were very friendly too.
When arriving, the lobby felt so grand and luxurious with seating in the front! The check in process was through a machine but the staff were friendly and available for help when needed. The disposable amenities available were also easy to access and had a great range. The room was also a nice and tidy and the bathroom was the same too. I liked that laundry machines were easily accessible. The location compared to the city centre (especially Sendai Station) was extremely convenient.
Good location, in city center.
Breakfast is excellent: Japanese and ample quantities. Small selection of western food available. Dinners are sensational; a rotation between Sukiyaki, Bbq and Shabu Shabu. All delicious in their own way. Accomodation is 3 star and comfortable enough. There are private and public onsens - the public ones are, perhaps, slightly small. Location to Appi Kogen is perfect - a two minute drive at most, even in foul weather. The tariffs are very reasonable, in stark contrast to 1.3km up the hill, on snow.
Friendly staff, convenient location, clean rooms, and good price. I appreciate that the staff offered to hold on to our bags after check-out. That was very nice and it allowed me to enjoy my Sendai trip without carrying a heavy backpack around all day.
Location of the hotel is about 10 min walk. It is located in the city center. There is a coin laundry machine in the hotel. There was no drinking water supplied to us. However the water from tap is drinkable.
