Koyasan
A 1000 year-old Buddhist temple, Shukubo Koya-san Eko-in offers Japanese-style accommodation, a beautiful garden and free WiFi. Guests are free to attend Buddhist morning services, the Goma fire ritual and meditation. Amazing place to stay, extremely recommended. A really great experience in general - I stayed in one of the suites and could not have asked for a more relaxing and peaceful place to stay, only a short walk from Okunoin Cemetary and an easy walk to the rest of town. Very close to the bus stop from Koyasan Station. Staff were always helpful and the meals were unbelievably delicious and satisfying, even though I needed to ask for a soy-free modification. The best food I ate during my stay!

The morning prayer was definitely a highlight. Loved all of it. The temple is beautiful, with amazing gardens. The room was also very nice, spacious and well equipped. Staff was very kind. Dinner was served in a private dining room, the food was very nice (but if you cant eat Japanese food definitely bring something to eat as you cant buy anything at the temple). The onsen was modern and clean, men and women are separated. Thank you very much, would definitely recommend!
Koyasan
Set in Koyasan and only 38 km from Kishi Station, Koyasan Shukubo Fugenin offers accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking. This 3-star ryokan offers luggage storage space and bicycle parking. Matsushita Park is 45 km from the ryokan and Wanpaku Park is 47 km away. We stayed two nights in Koyasan at Fugen-in temple and it left a long-lasting impression of serenity and kindness. The temple has a long history and many works of art. Attending the morning prayer was a meditative experience. The monks were very friendly and explained about the Haiku temple in Fugen-in's garden. Breakfast and dinner were amazing, so well-balanced and lovingly prepared. The room was clean and had everything we needed, we felt well taken care of. The water of the onsen was very hot and relaxing. Fugen-in's location is perfect, very central and right around the corner of the tourist information. What also stays with us is the beautiful sound of the local cicadas.

Koyasan
Located in the sacred Mount Koya area, 高野山 宿坊 桜池院 -Koyasan Shukubo Yochiin- is a historic temple and an accommodation for visitors. Just to the left of entering sanmon gate, there is a stone garden created by the famous Mirei Shigemori and designated a natural monument by the Japanese government. The food was incredible and the morning ceremony very impressive.
Hongu
Offering tranquil outdoor hot-spring baths with nature views, a Nakai-san personal attendant, karaoke, massages and sumptuous Kaiseki dinners, Yunominesou is a 10-minute walk from Tsuboyu hot spring, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Ryokan is so much better than we expected with a very reasonable price. I was staying for my Kumano Kodo dual pilgrim walk together with a friend, and could simply take bus back and forth to where I paused, very convenient location. The hotel has a long history but still kept very clean. The onsen was fantastic, with large pools both indoor and outdoor; also male and female were switched every day at 10pm so you can experience different setup for an overnight stay. Liked the dinner and breakfast: they changed menu for my two-night stay. Hopefully can have more choices on sake and fruit wine. Above average English skill with all super nice local staff. They’re the reason I would definitely choose to stay again next time after all!

Very well equiped rooms. Friendly host. Central location, walking distance to main places to visit.
Check-In was easy enough through a machine, and we had a room on the 11th floor which we could easily reach with the elevator. The room was nice, had an a/c, mini fridge and a private bathroom with all necessities. We booked three nights with breakfast and it was alright, the cafeteria was nice to sit in. Check-Out was even easier, you just had to slip your room card(s) into a machine. The location was also perfect for us, it's very close to the main train and bus station, only a 5 min walk. Would definitely recommend!
Convenient and good location. Friendly and helpful staff. Value for money.
Good price quality! You have everything you need to spend one night in Tanabe before starting Kumano Kodo.
The location is superb. It located in the city center and access to the station, restaurants, etc. is super easy. The breakfast buffet is relatively simple but at least its value is more than the cost of 500 yen.
The owner was extremely knowledgeable of hiking, buses and timetables was allowed to leave main luggage stored there till return for free. The location to JR Station and buses, restaurants make the guest house perfect gor the budget traveller or person soughting knowledgeable of hikes.
Great location right in the heart of koyasan town. Very convenient to walk to any attractions nearby. Room facilities are up to bar with some 2-3 star hotel I have been to. Tommy is a super friendly host. He recommends a lot of great local experiences from places to have dinner to different trekking trails and temple rituals you can attend for free. Tommy and his wife run a cafe next door and it’s open from 8am which is a rare thing in koyasan (most shops open at 11am). You get a big discount if you stay at Tommy guest house too ❤️
Price - a really good price for the room I had for the night Location - it’s kind of in the middle of nowhere but exactly what I needed, so it’s perfect location for me The view - I had the sea view room, and the view was great
Very good location in Koya. It's near the city centre but a bit removed from the Okunoin cemetery.
