We only stayed 1 night and arrived late in the evening so didn’t really spend enough time there to comment. Nice big room though (three adults).

It has a quiet, relaxed feel. Plenty of space to sit and watch the day go by. Outdoor, comfortable seating was perfect for the warm spring evening on the lawn, then when the temperature dropped we were provided with blankets to extend the outdoor peace. Perfect proximity to the university for visiting our daughter. This was our second visit and I hope to come back one day.

Colchester is a brilliant town to visit, you have the old and new part to walk round ranging from a good collection of shops and food outlets to browse and walking round the various churches, castle, monastery ruins and lovely parks.
The town is within walking distance of both train stations, taxis are plenty also. Take a good pair of comfy walking attire for feet as you will be walking up and down gradients!! A great place to visit on the local bus is Manningtree where there is a antiques emporium to walk round with a great cafe in the high street for food.
If visiting Colchester for the first time I recommend staying at least a minimum of 4 days as their is a lot to see of interest. Lots of charity shops too!!
For families do visit Colchester Zoo which is a great day out, this can be reached by bus also if you do not drive.

Great weekend destination.
Great weekend destination. Loads of big and little shops, cafes, restaurants and craft ales bars. Great atmosphere in town. On top of this the most amazing castle and wobbly medieval houses and Roman walls something for everyone!!
Town centre easy to walk round and explore and topped off with a fabulous meal at China Chef!

Colchester is a gem.
Colchester is a gem. Lovely architecture and sights, good cafes and pubs, shopping and eateries. It's not at all dog friendly, though, which is a big drawback if you ask me. Come on, Colchester, Britain loves its pets!
The location was really useful for using the station to get into Colchester town during the day and a couple of stops along in the evening to Hythe for visiting friends. Saved a fortune on taxis and meant no driving after a long journey. Really comfy bed and excellent power shower. Useful amenities in the room fridge and microwave and good selection of drinks inc hot choc in addition to the usual tea/coffee. Bottles of water and cartons of juice too.
I liked the location, the people working their are super nice, as well as the building and the old style. I liked the style of the hotel from the building itself to the furniture but you will like only if you like traditional old styles. I don't recommend it to someone who like fancy super stars hotel. not because it is not nice but because they will put bad reviews because it won't meet their expectations
Location was perfect. Right near the high Street with pubs and restaurants. Chosen for its closeness to the Colchester Arts Centre where we attended a gig. Lovely hotel, quirky little room in the Stable block with a comfy bed. Very friendly welcoming staff. Continental breakfast with plenty of choice. We would stay again if we come back to Colchester.
Needs electric ports.
The food in the bar was expensive considering there are loads of places near. We would have eaten at hotel if was cheaper.
Bar didn't have a good choice of beer/larger and again expensive.
The bar/breakfast area the wood was dusty with spider webs just needs a vac
Very helpful staff. Helped to use the check in machine at the doors. As we were checking out early in the morning, they even cooked breakfast earlier than they supposed to. Breakfast was very delicious. Free parking for hotel guests.
I chose the location as I was missing Essex Campus. I loved the hotel and the stay, but the price could compete better with some of the good hotels in Town Centre. Staff were amazing!
wonderful hotel. everyone was friendly and helpful. the room was lovely. the shower was excellent and a treat. we ate dinner in the bar, and it was quite good!
Great central location for Colchester. Excellent shower, comfortable room. The receptionist at the George Hotel was exceptional I wish I had asked for his name
The hotel was in a great, central location being on the high street of Colchester. We were attending a concert nearby and it was literally a 5 minute drive.
