It was my son’s 6th birthday and the team went above and beyond to make his birthday really special. They had decorated the dinner table and provided treats with a card. They also sang happy birthday with an extra tasty dessert treat. Our server, Ebonie was amazing. The barman, Ben was brilliant. Such great staff and we had a very special stay!

Very comfortable. Wonderful towels in the bathroom, big and fluffy and a good shower. Quality bedding and comfortable bed. Very pleasant bar and good wine selection. Food from the restaurant was good quality and reasonable price. However, the star of the whole stay was Julie. She went above and beyond to ensure my comfort. Organised a cab to my next venue. As a solo traveller of a certain age I sometimes find I am invisible in hotels, not so here. Julie stopped to chat when her duties permitted. Every hotel should have a Julie!

Lovely hotel in well kept grounds, lots of parking and large rooms. Reception staff very friendly at a late hour when checking in. Didn't make it to breakfast, but the price for food and the room was very competitive!

I liked the town and its history. However, I found the prices in pubs to be excessive, regarding both food and drink. The portion I received in the George was very small, especially considering I'd paid twenty-four pounds for it. It consisted of a tiny piece of fish, three mussels, a little broccoli, and two very small pieces of potato. In the Castle, I paid eighteen ponds fifty for a pint, with pie and mash. The price of a pint in most pubs was what you might expect to pay in London.

Colchester is a brilliant town to visit, you have the old and new part to walk round ranging from a good collection of shops and food outlets to browse and walking round the various churches, castle, monastery ruins and lovely parks.
The town is within walking distance of both train stations, taxis are plenty also. Take a good pair of comfy walking attire for feet as you will be walking up and down gradients!! A great place to visit on the local bus is Manningtree where there is a antiques emporium to walk round with a great cafe in the high street for food.
If visiting Colchester for the first time I recommend staying at least a minimum of 4 days as their is a lot to see of interest. Lots of charity shops too!!
For families do visit Colchester Zoo which is a great day out, this can be reached by bus also if you do not drive.

You have to be fit as there is a lot of walking
The hotel was half way up the hill and the nearest bus stops at the top or bottom.
There are many buses which basicly end up at Osbourne road bus station
There are numerous scooters for hire with i phone but i didnt see a main point of distribution just abonded scooters hear and there .
This was a lovely hotel that was right in the heart of Colchester! Near to shops, railway stations and bus stops!! The room we had was a good size as was the lovely bathroom with a big ensuite shower!! All the staff were polite and friendly and we appreciated the upgrade we were lucky to get! There was plenty of choice for the continental breakfast and there is also a restaurant here and you can have high tea!! If you want a place that's near to everything including the Castle which is well worth visiting this is the hotel to stay in!!
Everything about this hotel was amazing. It was cheap without it feeling and looking cheap. The staff were really welcoming from the minute we set foot through the door. Special mention to Julie who was a real gem; so engaging and genuine.
Theres a restaurant on site, breakfast was exceptional. The bar is well stocked and not excessively priced.
Rooms were spacious and the beds were super comfy. Had a great night sleep.
Location - central colchester, high street is a short walk away.
I liked the location, the people working their are super nice, as well as the building and the old style. I liked the style of the hotel from the building itself to the furniture but you will like only if you like traditional old styles. I don't recommend it to someone who like fancy super stars hotel. not because it is not nice but because they will put bad reviews because it won't meet their expectations
The suite we were offered was well proportioned, clean and comfortable. It was very quiet and had all the facilities. Really pleased that the hotel was able to accommodate our request for a walk in shower. We were in the annexe which allowed easy access to walk our dog. Very well located in the centre of Colchester. Ample secure car parking. Excellent no hesitation in recommending. Gus & Terri Markey.
The hotel was just outside Colchester off the A12. The hotel is being renovated, however we heard no construction noise during our stay. We were put in the new wing which has been beautifully renovated. We were first put into a double room and when we questioned it, the friendly receptionist changed us over to a twin. It had a huge TV and 2 comfortable 3 quarter size beds.
Angela is fantastic . Runs a lovely hotel . Plenty of character in the building and the resident ghosts . Alice. The monk and the little boy and girl make it very interesting indeed . There are more ghosts than just the 3 ive mentioned . You really cant go wrong if you stayed here friendly manager and excellent. Breakfast .Look no further if staying in Colchester .
Bit concerned about booking a hotel on the High Street because we normally goto a country hotel but glad to say it was perfect, location was ideal for mooching round Colchester town. our room was comfortable with air-conditioning, the bar staff were friendly, we ate in the restuarant and the food was lovely.
We loved everything about the hotel especially the swimming area for the kids and we enjoyed our stay. All the staff are so friendly especially the staff member in the leisure center. Also the buses to Colchester town was great also the bus stops are so close to the hotel.
The hotel was very clean and the room was good for what I needed (a desk to work on, a comfy bed and good shower). The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Some reviews said it would be noisy at night as on the high street, but my weekday night was very quiet.
I chose the location as I was missing Essex Campus. I loved the hotel and the stay, but the price could compete better with some of the good hotels in Town Centre. Staff were amazing!
Situated on the A12 just outside of Colchester. We stayed here as it was a short ride from our daughter's Colchester Zoo and on the route to Braintree Shopping Village.
It has a big store near, where you can get whatever you want. Also it has a bus stop to either the University of Essex or Colchester’s center just outside
